Walk 246 - Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr
Vid
Distance: 11.9km
Ascent: 920m

Oct 2025 - Ascent from Llyn Pen-y-Gwryd. Initially, the plan was to park at Llyn Ogwen and go up from the north, however it was absolutely rammed in every car park, so I opted for an approach from the south and a quieter start point. Extremely wet underfoot to start and the mist was down at around 600m, but an inversion was promised in the weather forecast. It most definitely delivered! By 800m, I was through the lower cloud and from then on, it was simply sensational. Over two hours, I crossed from Glyder Fach to Glyder Fawr and back again, wandering around on the edges, drinking in the incredible experience. Tryfan, the Carneddau tops, the Snowdon massif, Y Garn and Elidir Fawr were islands in the cloud. Even the very top of Moel Siabod was visible occasionally. It was so warm that I put on sun cream. There were multiple Brocken Spectres, just an absolute mountain walking dream. It was difficult to scrape myself away, but after wandering around in awe for a long time, I eventually descended. By the time I got halfway down, most of the cloud on the higher slopes had burnt off. Another walk that will live long in the memory.
